  • Publish: Use Amazon KDP to upload and track sales for your eBooks and paperbacks.

  • Regular Clients: Establishing long-term relationships is the best way to line up a steady income stream.

    • Hemingway will give you a better idea of the difficulty level of your writing and how it might affect your readers.

#3: Virtual Assistant Services

Virtual assistants handle email correspondence, scheduling, data entry, and customer service for businesses and entrepreneurs. This isn't necessarily the best way to make money online if you're looking for a full-time income, but it can definitely bring in a few hundred dollars per month.

Advantages:

  • Demand: There's a high demand for virtual support services across most industries right now.
  • Work-Life Balance: Depending on the gig, you can manage your workload to fit around other life commitments.
  • No Commute: You can save time and money by working from home, and you can also write off some of your home office expenses on your taxes.

Getting Started:

  • Skills Assessment: Determine which services you can offer based on your skill set.
  • Setup: You might need to provide your own headset and laptop or any other office supplies. Also, keep in mind that some companies might have certain security requirements, such as wired Internet access.
  • Promote: Use online job platforms like Belay, Virtual Vocations, or Flexjobs to find work or reach out directly to potential clients via LinkedIn.

Potential Earnings:

  • Hourly Rates: Rates can range from $10/hr on the low end to $30/hr on the high end, especially for VIP clients.
  • Retainer Contracts: You can secure ongoing monthly earnings by offering package deals to clients.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can earn online certification from educational institutions like California State University.

#4: Online Tutoring or Teaching

Online tutoring or teaching lets you share your knowledge in various subjects with students around the world through platforms like Zoom, Skype, or dedicated tutoring websites.

Advantages:

  • Flexibility: Choose your own hours and the subjects you're most interested in.
  • More Than Just a Job: Play a role in helping students achieve their educational goals.
  • Reach More Clients: Teach students from different areas of the world without leaving your home.

  • Sign Up: Register on tutoring platforms like Tutor.com or Chegg Tutors or create a profile on educational marketplaces like Udemy.
  • Prepare Materials: Develop course outlines and gather or create educational materials to use in your sessions.

Potential Earnings:

  • Hourly Rate: It typically ranges from $20 to $50 per hour, depending on subject complexity and grade level.
  • Course Sales: Selling pre-recorded courses on platforms like Teachable or Udemy can provide passive and recurring income long after your course goes live.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can find tips, tricks, and templates at The Tutor Resource blog.
  • You can create unlimited practice problems, study guides, and quizzes with AI tools like ChatGPT.

#5: Selling Crafts and Handmade Goods

You can monetize pretty much anything these days, including handmade crafts and digital downloadables.

Craft Ideas:

  • Stamped jewelry
  • Clay or beaded earrings
  • Stickers
  • Headbands, scrunchies, or other hair accessories
  • Baby bibs, blankets, and mobiles
  • Printable templates and designs

Advantages:

  • Make Money as a Creative: Turn your hobby into income while doing what you love.
  • Maximizing Profits: You can charge extra for personalization and special requests.
  • Community Engagement: Connect with other crafters and new customers through local craft fairs, online marketplaces, and social media.

Getting Started:

  • Product Line: Decide what products to sell based on what you enjoy making and what already sells well online for your competitors.
  • Online Storefront: Set up shop on platforms like Etsy, eBay, or Amazon Handmade.
  • Marketing: Everyone knows about using Instagram and Pinterest to showcase products and attract buyers, but don't be afraid to think outside the box. Some local colleges or coffee shops might let you hang flyers around campus advertising your crafts and any upcoming craft shows.

Potential Earnings:

  • Variable Profits: Earnings depend on product pricing, cost of materials, and sales volume. (Pro Tip: A lot of people tend to underestimate the cost of art supplies)
  • Seasonal Peaks: Sales often increase around holidays and special events, which means you should ramp up your marketing a couple of months before.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can join local or online classes through places like Skillshare and Joann to learn about brand-new techniques and materials you might not have considered before.
  • Etsy even has its own guides for getting your first shop up and running.

#6: Graphic Design Services

Just like publishing, graphic design has become a lot more accessible over the years, especially with platforms like Canva creating drag-and-drop beginner-friendly interfaces. If you decide to go this route, you can earn money online by offering logo design, website design, signs, book covers, clothing prints, and more!

Advantages:

  • High Demand: Businesses constantly need professional-looking designs to build and maintain their brand.
  • Artistic Freedom & Flexibility: You can work on a variety of projects at any given time.
  • Professional Growth: You can develop a broad portfolio that might open doors to larger projects and clients in the future.

Getting Started:

  • Portfolio: You should create a portfolio of ad specs and mock-ups to showcase your design skills and range of work.
  • Networking: You can join platforms like Behance or Dribbble to display your work and connect with potential clients.

Potential Earnings:

  • Project-Based Fees: You can charge per project or hourly rates ranging from $25 to $100 or more, depending on the project's complexity, turnaround time, and client. (Pro tip: Add an extra "rush fee" for clients who make last-minute requests)
  • Recurring Clients: Establishing ongoing relationships can lead to regular work and stable income, which makes tax planning a whole lot easier for freelancers.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Master tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Sketch.
  • Build your portfolio on sites like Wix or Squarespace.

#7: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing involves promoting other people's products and earning a commission from the sales made through your specific referral links. This can be done through blogs, social media, or websites dedicated to product reviews.

Fair warning: This is another one of those hustles that typically promises the moon but doesn’t always deliver. You really have to know what you’re getting yourself into and how to maintain this side hustle for it to work.

Advantages:

  • Low Overhead: You can typically start with minimal investment. You mainly just need a digital platform to promote products, but building up web traffic can definitely be a slow burn.
  • Flexibility: You can work at your own pace and choose products that align with your interests or values (of course, not everyone does that).
  • Passive and Recurring Income: You can earn money even when you're not actively working as long as your links from past posts are still performing well.

Getting Started:

  • Choose a Niche: Select a market that interests you and has a proven demand.
  • Sign Up for Relevant Programs: Join affiliate networks like Amazon Associates, Commission Junction, or ShareASale.
  • Content Creation: Build interesting content around the products you're promoting to drive traffic and click-throughs.

Potential Earnings:

  • Commission-Based: Earnings vary a lot, typically ranging from 1% to 50% of the sale price, depending on the product and network. Of course, most people fall into the lower end.
  • Growth Over Time: As your audience grows, so can your affiliate income.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Online courses through Coursera and Udemy teach strategies for successful affiliate marketing.
  • Search Engine Optimization is an entirely different skill, but it comes in handy when you're trying to get your content to rank on the first page of Amazon, Google, etc. Matt Diggity's Affiliate Lab is a popular course for brushing up on these skills.

#8: Online Store or Dropshipping

Dropshipping lets small business owners transfer customer orders to a manufacturer or wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to them after they make a purchase. It sounds really simple in theory, but you'll have to attract clients and provide excellent customer service, or you'll be looking at tons of refunds and chargebacks (which can turn into a nightmare pretty quickly).

Advantages:

  • Scalability: You can easily add or change products without dealing with physical stock.
  • Wide Market Access: You can sell to customers all over the world.

Getting Started:

  • Platform Selection: Use e-commerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce to build your store.
  • Supplier Partnership: Find reliable suppliers with good product quality and reasonable shipping times.
  • Marketing: Develop digital marketing campaigns to attract customers to your store.

Potential Earnings:

  • Markup on Products: Your earnings depend on the markup you apply to the products sold, but most products are going to be lower-priced to begin with.
  • Variable Income: Profits can fluctuate based on sales volume, market trends, and operational efficiency.
  • The Bottom Line: If we're being realistic, somewhere around 90% of people who try dropshipping don't necessarily end up making a ton of extra income because it requires a certain level of attention and upkeep.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • E-commerce Webinars and YouTube Channels can teach you how to start and run an online store.
  • Digital marketing courses from Coursera and Udemy can teach you new techniques for driving traffic and converting visitors into customers.

#9: Social Media Management

Social media is obviously huge right now (despite the panic surrounding the potential TikTok ban not too long ago). As a social media manager, you might schedule posts, engage with followers, and run advertising campaigns.

Advantages:

  • High Demand: As businesses focus more on their online presence, everyone is competing for their customers' attention. This means they need a LOT of content and FAST.
  • Creative Control: You'll be responsible for continuously developing new strategies to build engagement and brand loyalty.
  • Work From Anywhere: You can pretty much manage social media accounts from any location with an internet connection.

Getting Started:

  • Build a Portfolio: It's a good idea to start with small projects or manage your own social media to prove your abilities.
  • Networking: As you get more comfortable and gain some experience under your belt, you can use platforms like LinkedIn to connect with potential clients.

Potential Earnings:

  • Project-Based or Retainer Fees: You'll typically charge by the project or a monthly retainer, which can range from $300 to $5,000, depending on the client's marketing budget and follower count.
  • Brand Deals: Some brand deals involve a single post, while others might require you to make a trip and provide weeks' worth of content. You'll be surprised by how much a single brand deal can earn (sometimes upwards of $10k).

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can earn social media certifications from platforms like Hootsuite or HubSpot.
  • You'll also want to familiarize yourself with tools like Buffer, Canva, and Sprout Social.

#10: Blogging or Vlogging

Another way for women to make money online is by creating and sharing personal content.

Blogging and vlogging involve creating content on various topics, such as lifestyle, tech, fashion, or personal experiences, and sharing it on platforms like WordPress for blogs or YouTube for vlogs.

Advantages:

  • Be Yourself: Imagine making money by sharing the things you normally would have posted anyway on your social media platforms, like your favorite new water bottle, a new life hack you just learned for scrunching your curls, or the unhinged things your toddler said last week. That's the reality for thousands of influencers!
  • Multiple Revenue Streams: You can earn money through ads, sponsorships, affiliate marketing, merchandise, or a combination of all of the above.
  • Flexible Schedule: You get to create and post content according to your own timetable, but you'll want to be somewhat consistent to keep the algorithm happy.

Getting Started:

  • Choose Your Niche: Identify a topic you can produce consistent content for without getting bored or burned out.
  • Create Quality Content: Focus on delivering valuable and engaging content to build a loyal audience.
  • Optimize for SEO: Use search engine optimization strategies to increase visibility and attract more viewers or readers.

Potential Earnings:

  • Ad Revenue and Sponsorships: Your potential to earn will depend on your audience size and engagement. A big following count is one thing, but having followers who actually comment and share your posts is another.
  • Subscription Models: You can implement Patreon subscriber tiers or similar platforms to generate recurring income from dedicated followers.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can learn editing and content strategies from platforms like Skillshare or Udemy.
  • You can also learn about social media engagement through courses like Kristine's "Laugh My Ads Off." (The course material is tailored to the music industry but is applicable to most industries)

#11: Online Courses or Workshops

If you've got a proven track record in a certain skillset producing results that you know other people are looking for, you might consider creating and selling an online course. This can be about literally anything from opening your own salon to conquering grad school.

Advantages:

  • Get Paid for Your Expertise: Turn your professional skills and hobbies into educational content.
  • Scalable Income: Create the course once and sell it over and over again without additional costs.

Getting Started:

  • Develop Course Material: Plan a curriculum that's detailed but easy to follow.
  • Choose the Right Platform: Select a platform that aligns with your content style and audience.

Potential Earnings:

  • Course Fees: Set competitive prices based on the topic's demand or the level of results you know it can produce for your students.
  • Recurring Revenue: Update and relaunch courses to maintain relevance and attract new students.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Skool is a community-driven platform that lets you connect with an audience and "gamifies" the learning.
  • Kartra is an all-in-one marketing platform that can help you with all sorts of digital products, webinars, and memberships.
  • Kajabi markets itself as an all-in-one course creator.

#12: Offering Online Fitness Classes or Personal Training

Speaking of courses... Online workouts have really taken off recently for clients who prefer working out at home or can't access a gym.

Advantages:

  • Mentorship: Help others achieve their health and fitness goals.
  • Flexibility: Schedule classes and sessions according to your own availability. This is one of the best side hustles if you're a stay-at-home mom because you can still be right by your kiddos while earning extra cash.
  • Low Start-Up Costs: You don't need much equipment to start, especially if you conduct classes via video.

Getting Started:

  • Certification: You might choose to get a fitness trainer certification from an accredited program, but it’s not necessary.
  • Set Up an Online Presence: You can start promoting your classes across your socials or a personal site.
  • Engage Clients: You can offer free trials or introductory workouts to attract potential clients.

Potential Earnings:

  • Per Session Fee: You'll typically charge per class or session, with rates depending on your experience and the session length. You can also offer packages at a discount to encourage long-term commitment.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can scope out the competition across sites like Zumba or YouTube.

#13: Become a Virtual Event Planner

Virtual event planning involves organizing and coordinating events that take place entirely online, such as webinars, conferences, and parties.

Advantages:

  • Networking Opportunities: You'll constantly be meeting new people who you can plan future projects with or learn from.
  • Fast-Paced: Some people thrive under pressure and need those conditions to enjoy their job. Event planning is definitely one of those industries where things can go wrong, and you'll have to think on your toes a lot, which can be a bonus for the right person.

Getting Started:

  • Start small with local or free events to build your portfolio.
  • You'll want to get comfortable with event management software and platforms like Zoom or Eventbrite.

Potential Earnings:

  • Consultation Fees: You can charge per event or on an hourly basis, and those clients will hopefully turn into repeat business and referrals.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can earn certifications in event planning through community colleges and e-learning platforms.

#14: Voice-Over Work

Voice-over work involves recording your voice for various media and digital products, like commercials, audiobooks, or animated characters. It's not as common as some of these other ideas for selling services online, but it is a growing market.

Advantages:

  • Flexible Work Environment: Record from home at any hour of the day.
  • Diverse Opportunities: Work across multiple industries, including advertising, entertainment, and education.
  • Creative Expression: Use your vocal skills to bring scripts or books to life.

Getting Started:

  • Quality Recording Equipment: Invest in a starter microphone and recording software.
  • Demo Reel: Record examples of your voice-over work to showcase your range and skills.
  • Network and Audition: Join platforms like Amazon's ACX to find gigs and audition for potential roles.

Potential Earnings:

  • Project-Based Payments: You'll typically be paid per project or by the length of the recording.
  • Residual Income: You can earn royalties from projects like commercials or audiobooks, depending on the contract.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You can attend Voice Acting Workshops to improve your skills and technique.
  • You can join Audio Editing Courses to learn to edit your own recordings.

#15: Personal Stylist or Fashion Consultant

As a personal stylist or fashion consultant, you’ll help clients build their self-esteem and feel good about themselves by offering help with style advice and personal shopping services.

Advantages:

  • Personal Impact: Make a direct impact on clients' confidence and self-image.
  • High Demand: Benefit from the growing trend of personal styling and capitalize on all the social media hype (helping people find their color palette is huge right now).

Getting Started:

  • Portfolio: Build a portfolio with before and after photos or videos of your styling projects.
  • Market Your Services: Use social media and style blogs to reach potential clients.

Potential Earnings:

  • Consultation and Service Fees: Charge per session or offer package deals for complete makeovers.
  • Referral Earnings: Generate additional income through affiliate marketing and brand deals with hair, makeup, beauty, and fashion brands.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Consider subscribing to print magazines or access them with a Kindle Unlimited subscription to stay on top of trends.

#16: Professional Organizer

Professional organizers help clients declutter and reorganize their personal and professional spaces. You can scale your business pretty quickly if you focus on a particular niche like other busy moms or elderly folk who could also use some extra company.

Advantages:

  • Impactful Work: Directly improve clients' living and work environments.
  • Varied Projects: You can mix up your jobs to work in residential places one week and corporate organizations the next.

Getting Started:

  • Document Your Work: Build a portfolio with before-and-after photos as well as happy client testimonials.
  • Market Locally: Offer your services to local businesses and homeowners through flyers, emails, or good old door knocking.

Potential Earnings:

  • Project-Based Fees: Charge based on the size and scope of the project or offer a subscription plan that includes a certain amount of cleaning every quarter.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Check out Marie Kondo's Netflix special and best-selling books for organization tips.

#17: Get Paid for Your Opinions

A lot of online blogs will tell you to participate in market research studies, surveys, or focus groups to make money online. There's nothing wrong with this strategy; it's just that most blogs leave out the fact that the competition is really high, it's easy to get disqualified from surveys based on your demographic information, and most survey platforms require a certain payment threshold before they release any funds. These are all just things to keep in mind.

Advantages:

  • Ease of Access: Participate from the comfort of your own home and at your convenience.
  • Contribution to Products: Your feedback can directly influence product development.

Getting Started:

  • Sign Up for Research Panels: Join platforms like Survey Junkie or FocusGroup.com.
  • Regular Participation: Stay active on platforms to maximize earning opportunities.

Potential Earnings:

  • Compensation Per Survey: Earn from a few cents to more than $100 for in-depth studies.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Brands like Ulta might automatically invite you to their focus groups if you make regular purchases from them.
  • Swagbucks and Inbox Dollars also used to be pretty popular for surveys.

#18: Task and Errand Service

If you don't mind running around town, operating a task and errand service involves performing various day-to-day tasks for clients, like grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, or completing post office runs.

Advantages:

  • Flexible Scheduling: Choose tasks that fit your ideal schedule.
  • Community Service: Feel good about helping people who might not be able to manage these tasks themselves.
  • Immediate Payment: Typically, tasks are paid right upon completion, providing money fast.

Getting Started:

  • Local Advertising: Post your business cards or flyers on community boards, social media, and local newspapers to advertise your services.
  • Reliable Transportation: Make sure you have a dependable means of transport and are maintaining your car's oil, fluids, etc.

Potential Earnings:

  • Varied Depending on Tasks: Some tasks may be quick and simple, while others might be more time-consuming. You might consider offering your repeat clients a monthly retainer plan instead of asking them to pay per errand.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • Platforms like TaskRabbit and Craigslist can connect you to potential clients.

#19: Travel Planning

As a travel planner, you'll help clients design and book their travel experiences, including flights, accommodations, and itineraries. (Pro Tip: Amusement parks and all-inclusive resorts are a huge niche)

Advantages:

  • Passion for Travel: Turn your love for travel into a profitable side hustle.
  • Flexibility & Perks: Work from anywhere and write off certain travel expenses for your business.

Getting Started:

  • Knowledge of the Travel Industry: Keep researching travel trends, destinations, and budget tips.
  • Partnerships: Establish relationships with travel agencies and tour operators for better deals.
  • Online Presence: Create a professional website or use social media to attract new clients.

Potential Earnings:

  • Service Fees: Charge for the convenience of your planning services.
  • Commission from Bookings: Earn commissions from hotels, airlines, and tour companies.

Tools and Resources for Learning More:

  • You might choose to earn your Travel Agent Certification to boost your credibility.

How Can a Female Make Money ASAP? 5 Strategies

We've discussed some ways for women to make money online, like selling online courses, offering online tutoring, and offering graphic design services. Now, let's discuss scaling these side hustles into a successful online business ASAP!

Whether you're seeking a side hustle or a full-time remote career, here are five strategies to step into your Girl Boss era:

  1. Master In-Demand Skills
    • Focus on the skills that are in high demand and will remain so for the foreseeable future, such as web development, digital marketing, data analysis, and graphic design.
    • Invest in yourself by taking online courses, attending conferences, and earning certifications.
    • Take your portfolio seriously, and make sure to highlight your best work.
  2. Take Advantage of AI Tools
    • Use ChatGPT to optimize your resume or draft things like website copy, cold pitches, emails, and other marketing material.
    • Let AI tools speed up all your busy work, so you can focus on the things that will keep growing your business instead.
  3. Pursue Online Learning and Networking Opportunities
    • See if there are any networking groups in your area that are aligned with your particular skills. If not, try searching for national groups instead. Your local Chamber of Commerce is always a good place to start.
  4. Work on Your Marketing Strategies
    • There's a famous marketing phrase that says, "If you try marketing to everyone, you'll end up marketing to no one."
    • Get to know your audience inside and out. What are they scared of? What do they hate? What do they wish was different about their lives? How can you help them get to where they want to be?
    • Optimize your profiles on freelance platforms and online marketplaces to highlight your strengths and stand out from competitors. A lot of new freelancers make the mistake of writing their bios for themselves instead of trying on the shoes of their clients and looking at things from the client's perspective.
  5. Offer Valuable Services or Products
    • Seek feedback from clients or customers, use it to continuously improve your offerings, and learn not to take it personally.
    • Diversify your income streams by exploring multiple ways to stack and monetize your skills or products online.
